Africa’s giant grocery retailer, Shoprite, is expanding into coffee shops with the new acquisition of South Africa’s biggest coffee chain, Vida e Caffè.
The deal will see Shoprite take over Vida’s 400 stores, spanning both corporate and franchise locations nationwide.
This was announced in the group’s annual results for the 2026 financial year.
But that’s not all; Shoprite also acquired an initial majority stake in South African technology and payments company R&A Cellular, expanding its presence in quick-service restaurants, technology and payments.
