Airlink has called off its planned flypast over FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, which was scheduled for Saturday, 5 September 2026.
Airlink made headlines this past weekend, 29 August 2026, when two of its flights made a controversial flypast over DHL Stadium just before the Springboks vs All Blacks match.
This comes after the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) confirmed that Airlink withdrew its application for approval of the planned third flypast on 1 September.
Two Airlink planes (one green-and-gold, while the other was black) flew low-altitude past the stadium during the Springboks and All Blacks match.
The black Embraer E195 flew just 12.5 to 14 meters above the stadium roof.
According to SACAA, Airlink had followed the required steps for the second flypast. The airline submitted the necessary application and supporting documents, while “the practice flight in a simulator” and “a safety briefing” were completed ahead of the planned operation.
