This October… Gautrain to launch its Uber-like e-hailing service ‘Gau Express’

The Gautrain is gearing up to introduce its Uber-like e-hailing service, which will be integrated into the existing mobile app.

The Gautrain version will be called “Gau Express”, and customers will be able to use the service starting in October 2026.

News24 reports that Gau Express will introduce discounted fares for Gautrain commuters while integrating meter cab and taxi partnerships.

Gautrain Management Agency CEO Tshepo Kgobe said the service is designed for commuters who need quick transport.

The service will also allow users to request rides from different areas across Gauteng beyond station pickups.

Vehicles will feature Gautrain’s gold-and-blue branding.

Passengers will be able to pay through regular payment methods or using their Gautrain card balance.

In addition, Kgobe said Gautrain is considering adding smaller electric vehicles, such as scooters and e-bikes, in the future to give commuters more last-mile transport options.
