Letting businesses accept contactless card payments… Apple brings Tap to Pay on iPhone to South Africa

Apple has introduced Tap to Pay on iPhone in South Africa, allowing businesses to accept payments using only their phones.

The service lets merchants accept contactless card payments, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets directly on their iPhone without needing additional devices or card terminals. Customers simply tap their payment method near the phone, and the transaction is completed instantly.

The service is currently supported locally through iStore Pay and Yoco, helping businesses easily start offering tap payments at checkout.

Tap to Pay supports major payment networks, including Visa and Mastercard, while support for American Express is expected soon. The feature works on iPhone Xs devices and newer models using updated iOS software.

The move gives businesses more freedom to accept payments from almost anywhere, whether operating in-store, at markets, events, or while travelling.
