Authorities in the DRC have confirmed that 10 women were kidnapped in Kwamouth territory by suspected Mobondo militia fighters.
The women were out gathering food when they were taken; one managed to escape and inform officials.
This incident is part of ongoing ethnic clashes between the Yaka and Teke communities that began in 2022 after a dispute over increased land taxes.
In response, Yaka members formed the Mobondo militia, which has since been blamed for widespread violence, including the deaths of at least 3,000 civilians in the area.
The group reportedly targets civilians and rival communities in a fight for land and control.
Despite efforts by Congolese security forces to end the violence, attacks have continued.
The situation has received limited attention, overshadowed by the M23 rebel crisis in eastern Congo.
