Kenya Cult Probe: Police arrest 11 Suspects after 34 Bodies found

Authorities in Kenya have launched a fresh investigation into cult-linked deaths after uncovering 34 bodies and 102 human remains from shallow graves in Kilifi County.

“32 bodies have so far been exhumed, and two other bodies were also recovered here,” said Police Chief Douglas Kanja, adding that many victims were not locals, which complicates identification.

“We have sent our best team here of investigators,” he added, promising a full report soon.

Eleven suspects are in custody, with four believed to be prime players in the deaths.

The horrific discovery has reignited memories of the 2023 Shakahola massacre, where over 400 victims, including children, were found in similar graves tied to a starvation cult.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen warned that ignoring suspicious religious gatherings emboldens extremist preachers and risks repeating such tragedies.

Kilifi, a coastal town 426km from Nairobi, now finds itself at the center of another tragic chapter in Kenya’s battle against cult abuse.
