Ghana Beauty & Wellness Index Commissioned at Opening Ceremony of the 10th Beauty, Cosmetics & Wellness West Africa 2026 – The Legacy Expo

A major milestone for Ghana’s beauty and wellness industry was announced at the opening ceremony of the 10th edition of Beauty, Cosmetics & Wellness West Africa 2026, dubbed The Legacy Expo, with the official commissioning of the Ghana Beauty & Wellness Index—the first evidence-based industry index dedicated entirely to Ghana’s beauty and wellness sector.

The announcement was made during the opening ceremony by the Chief Executive Officer of Makeup Ghana, who described the initiative as a historic step toward measuring, understanding, and showcasing the true value of one of Ghana’s fastest-growing industries.

The three-day exhibition, themed “10 Years of Impact: The Legacy Era,” marks a decade of growth for what has become West Africa’s premier trade platform for beauty, cosmetics, and wellness. Bringing together industry leaders, entrepreneurs, practitioners, policymakers, investors, and development partners, the event celebrates ten years of industry advancement while charting a bold course for the future.

In announcing the Index, the CEO emphasized the need for reliable industry data to support policy development, investment attraction, skills development, and business growth.

“For years, we have gathered to trade, learn, connect, and grow. Yet one fundamental question has remained unanswered: How big is Ghana’s beauty and wellness industry? Today, we are taking a decisive step towards finding that answer,” she stated.

Beginning in 2026 and published every two years, the Ghana Beauty & Wellness Index will provide comprehensive data and insights on:

• Industry size and economic contribution
• Number of practitioners and businesses operating across the country
• Industry standards, certification, and accreditation levels
• Consumer spending patterns and market trends
• Policy recommendations to support sector growth

According to the organizers, the Index will be developed in collaboration with key industry stakeholders, government institutions, regulatory bodies, academia, development partners, and research organizations to ensure credibility, inclusiveness, and national relevance.

Describing the initiative as a collective industry project rather than a standalone organizational effort, the CEO called on all stakeholders to actively participate in its development.

“This is not our Index alone. It is the industry’s Index. Together, we will finally measure, understand, and showcase the true value of Ghana’s beauty and wellness sector.”

The inaugural Ghana Beauty & Wellness Index is expected to be officially launched at the Ghana Beauty Awards in November 2026 and is anticipated to become the industry’s leading reference document for decision-making, investment, advocacy, and policy engagement.

The organizers are inviting brands, institutions, development partners, sponsors, practitioners, researchers, and industry stakeholders to support the initiative as partners, contributors, sponsors, and founding stakeholders.

“We are inviting brands, institutions, development partners, sponsors, practitioners, and stakeholders to join us in building this historic national document. Because this is more than an Index. It is a voice for the industry. It is a tool for transformation. It is a foundation for the future. And the future starts now.”

A key objective of the Ghana Beauty & Wellness Index is to quantify the sector’s contribution to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), providing the evidence needed to elevate the industry’s status as a significant driver of economic growth, job creation, entrepreneurship, and national development.

The commissioning of the Ghana Beauty & Wellness Index represents one of the most significant announcements in the ten-year history of the platform and underscores Makeup Ghana’s continued commitment to advancing industry professionalism, data-driven growth, and regional competitiveness.
