‘MICHAEL’ — Our Movie of the Week on JACKSON (which has pulled in an estimated $217 million dollars globally within its first few days) has Everyone talking….Here is why!

The long awaited Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, has hit cinemas this past weekend (24 April 2026) and it’s already making serious noise. Despite mixed reactions from critics and fans, the movie has opened strong, pulling in an estimated $217 million dollars globally within its first few days.

Produced by Graham King, known for Bohemian Rhapsody, and directed by Antoine Fuqua, the movie is backed by the Michael Jackson Estate. Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s real life nephew, steps into the role of the King of Pop. His performance has been widely praised as eerily accurate.

The story is all on Michael’s journey of finding his identity while dealing with the pressure of fame and his complicated relationship with his father, Joe Jackson. It’s framed as a coming of age story, showing both the drive behind his success and the personal challenges that came with it.

Without giving too much away, the movie leans into a “greatest hits” experience, recreating some of his most iconic moments. From the making of the Thriller video to the unforgettable Billie Jeanperformance at Motown 25, the movie gives fans a closer look at the artistry behind the legend.

It wraps up around the Bad Tour era, showing a version of Michael who is stepping into his independence, while also highlighting his isolation and his connection to music and his personal world.

Reception has been split. Critics have been more reserved, with some calling the movie too polished and avoiding the more controversial parts of his life. On the other hand, fans have fully embraced it, praising it as an emotional and powerful tribute to Michael Jackson’s legacy, driven by a standout performance from Jaafar and a soundtrack packed with over 30 of his biggest hits.

The movie also features a strong supporting cast, including Nia Long, Colman Domingo, Miles Teller, and Laura Harrier. The story follows a mostly chronological journey, starting from Michael’s early days in Gary, Indiana, through his rise with the Jackson 5, and into his global solo success with albums like Off the Wall and Thriller.

For those who haven’t checked it, you still have time to go to cinemas.
