Just like most social apps with premium versions, Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp will soon roll out a premium version that users will need to subscribe to to access advanced features.
It will be named WhatsApp Plus.
The paid version will feature custom icons, themes, ringtones, and notification sounds, along with the ability to pin up to 20 chats instead of three. It also allows selected themes and tones to be applied across chat lists.
The version is now live, tested on the app’s Android beta, with an iOS rollout expected to follow.
A Meta spokesperson said Meta is testing “a new, optional subscription called WhatsApp Plus,” aimed at users who want more ways to personalise and organise their experience.
The company has not yet disclosed the premium pricing.
It runs in the Meta family, where Meta mainly makes money from ads but is now also adding subscriptions, just like Twitter (now X).
