South Africa formally handed over the G20 Presidency to the United States during a ceremony at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) in Pretoria.
The US will officially take over on 1 December 2025.
In closing his address, President Cyril Ramaphosa used the symbolic gavel to mark the transition, saying that “this gavel of this G20 summit formally closes this summit” and now passes on to the next president of the G20, “which is the United States, where we shall see each other again next year.”
