Ruffalo returns as agent Tom Brandis in ‘Task’ as Season 2 gets renewed by HBO

HBO’s crime drama series Task has been renewed for season 2 and is officially taking the action back to Pennsylvania.

Mark Ruffalo is locked in again, ready to return to the center of the story after a debut season that skyrocketed in popularity.

By the time the finale aired, the premiere had already stacked up 11.2 million viewers, making the show one of HBO’s fastest climbers.

Creator Brad Ingelsby shared the update at a New York press briefing, confirming Ruffalo’s comeback and thanking the network for standing by the series from day one.

He credited the project’s momentum to “HBO’s unwavering support… from the very first script” and called the network “an unmatched creative home.” He said the whole team is fired up for round two, adding he is “honored and excited to get back to work.”

Story details are still locked away. Ruffalo will step back in as Agent Tom Brandis, possibly thrown into a completely new case with a different lineup of investigators.

The series features local talent, including Thuso Mbedu as Sergeant Aleah Clinton.

Other cast includes Emilia Jones, Jamie McShane, Sam Keeley, Fabien Frankel, Alison Oliver, Raúl Castillo, Silvia Dionicio, Phoebe Fox, and Martha Plimpton.

Behind the lens, Ingelsby led the charge, alongside directors Jeremiah Zagar and Salli Richardson-Whitfield, producers Paul Lee and Mark Roybal from Wiip, as well as Ruffalo, David Crockett, and Ron Schmidt. At the same time, Nicole Jordan-Webber and Jeremy Yaches handled co-executive duties.

Season 1 of ‘Task’ is now streaming on Showmax.
