EPL on Citi: Manchester United step up pursuit of Brentford’s Mbeumo- Source

Manchester United Step Up Pursuit of Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo After Securing Matheus Cunha Deal

Manchester United are intensifying their interest in Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, according to sources close to the club. The move comes as United prepare to finalize the signing of Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, whose transfer has already progressed significantly.

There is growing optimism at Old Trafford that Mbeumo is keen on the switch, despite United missing out on European qualification for next season. This contrasts with the situation involving Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, who opted to join Chelsea instead—citing their Champions League participation as a decisive factor.

Mbeumo, 25, enjoyed a standout 2024/25 season, scoring 20 goals and catching the eye of Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, who had previously been linked with United’s managerial position. Since joining Brentford in 2019, the Cameroon international has registered an impressive 70 goals in 242 appearances.

While Brentford have placed a valuation of over £50 million on Mbeumo, United are hoping to negotiate a more favorable deal. The forward is currently under contract until 2026, with an option to extend for an additional year.

Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze is also on United’s radar, but securing the England international could prove difficult, with Palace determined to keep one of their prized assets at Selhurst Park.

Meanwhile, United are expected to complete Matheus Cunha’s move shortly after the international break. The Brazil international has already passed his medical and signed a five-year contract. United triggered his £62.5 million release clause to secure the deal.

As part of a wider squad rebuild, United are pushing forward with their summer transfer plans in a bid to return to top-level contention next season.
