Tanzania has destroyed 614 acres of illegal cannabis farms discovered within the Mikumi-Nyerere wildlife corridor, the Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) revealed Wednesday.
Conducted between July 6–15, the operation seized 3,741.9 kilograms of dried marijuana and 1,706 kilograms of seeds.
Officials teamed up with park authorities and locals to dismantle 72 makeshift camps and detain nine suspects.
The crackdown, aimed at tackling drug crimes and protecting Tanzania’s vital wildlife, underscores the government’s commitment to conservation and public safety.
The DCEA praised the collaboration between law enforcement, conservation agencies, and community members.
Commissioner General Aretas Lyimo emphasized that the operation’s success demonstrates the strength of collaboration, showing how joint efforts enhance both the fight against drugs and the protection of wildlife in the region.
