E‑commerce giant Temu has launched a local warehouse in South Africa, now offering customers same-day delivery nationwide.
Products marked with the “Local warehouse” tag are eligible to be delivered from Temu’s new warehouse and get them in under two days, sometimes even the next day.
This move marks a big step, beating the typical weeks-long wait for deliveries from China.
Calling it “an exciting step forward in our mission to deliver a faster, smoother, and more satisfying shopping experience,” a Temu spokesperson highlighted how the launch of local warehouse dispatch brings products closer to South African customers.
They added, “By bringing products closer to our South African consumers, we’re not only improving reliability but also expanding the variety of items available to meet local needs and tastes. It’s all about making shopping with Temu even more convenient and rewarding.”
Temu’s local warehouses let South Africans shop with ease, now offering quicker access to product categories like furniture, home goods, and other bulky items.
Temu’s strategy builds on its global success, starting with its US launch in September 2022, followed by rapid expansion into Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America before entering South Africa on 17 January 2024 as its 49th market. This local fulfillment model—already proven effective in over 90 countries—enables faster, more reliable deliveries.
The e‑commerce giant continues to shake up the market with its faster delivery, positioning itself as a strong competitor to local e-commerce giants like Takealot and the recently launched Amazon South Africa in 2024.
