The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has said that there are no branches of the body known as Northern or Southern CAN, insisting that it operates as one entity with its headquarters in Abuja.
CAN said it only has zonal, state, Federal Capital Territory and Local Government branches, districts and ward units.
CAN said that anyone that portrays himself or herself as Chairman of Northern or Southern CAN does so in violation of the association’s constitutional provisions.
CAN reiterated that it is one body as it is stated in its motto, “That they may be one”, and called on the general public to desist from any dealings with any group or persons with the acronym “CAN” with the exception of the mentioned branches.
“This notice serves as a disclaimer of further usage of the name Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, as Northern CAN or Southern CAN,” a statement signed by Vice President of CAN, His Grace, Most Rev. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, President, Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, and His Eminence, Bishop Dr. Francis Wale Oke, President, Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, said.
“Further usage or/and patronage of these names or any other name or title with the acronym ‘CAN’ shall attract legal actions,” the statement added.
