SOUTH AFRICAN RAND Strengthens against the DOLLAR

The rand strengthened on Wednesday after weak US economic data raised hopes of a December rate cut by the Federal Reserve, pushing the dollar down.

By 13:33 GMT, the rand was at 17.14 to the dollar, 0.5% stronger than Tuesday.

The dollar fell 0.2% against other major currencies.
