Headlining the debut WAV Festival in Cape Town… MARIAH THE SCIENTIST to perform in South Africa in January 2026

Cape Town’s festival season just got hotter with MARIAH THE SCIENTIST set to headline the first-ever WAV Festival, a brand-new live music experience landing on 2 January 2026 at Green Point Track.

The Atlanta-born R&B singer and songwriter, known for her distinctive sound and raw lyricism, will join a jam-packed lineup featuring local favs Kelvin Momo, Shekhinah, Manana, and Nanette.

The festival’s launch comes amid Cape Town’s busiest music season yet, with Balcony Mix Africa (27 Dec), Kunye (29 Dec), Piano People (30 Dec), Jerk x Jollof (31 Dec & 1 Jan), and Milk & Cookies (3 & 10 Jan) already set to light up the summer.

Year after year, we’re seeing steady growth in the number of festivals launching and finding their way to South Africa. It’s undeniable that the country has become a prime destination for festivals and artist tours. WAV Festival becomes the latest addition.

WAV Festival is the latest cultural entry from The Malachite Group (TMG) and Africa Creative Agency (ACA). TMG, the team behind Afro Nation, Piano People, and LIT Everywhere, brings world-class festival production and a global audience.
