Rwanda and the DRC have agreed to stick to their 2025 peace deal, following a recent high-level meeting with officials from the AU, US, Qatar, and others.
The focus was on making faster progress and reducing violence in eastern Congo.
To boost efforts, a new single secretariat combining experts from the AU, SADC, and EAC will lead peace coordination. The two countries also agreed to support the safe return of refugees and prepare for a big security meeting coming soon in Doha.
One of the key points was tackling the FDLR rebel group. The DRC said it doesn’t back the FDLR, and Rwanda said it respects Congo’s borders.
Both countries also agreed to stop helping any rebel groups and to start sharing military and intelligence info directly.
