South Africa’s Aspen Pharmacare, acting as Eli Lilly’s sales agent, will soon launch the injectable pen version of Mounjaro after gaining regulatory approval.
Already available in vials since December for Type 2 diabetes, Mounjaro is also used for weight-loss purposes.
CEO Stephen Saad told Reuters, “It’s a hit, absolutely shooting the lights out,” saying Mounjaro helped boost the GLP-1 market by over 130%. “It wouldn’t surprise me if this product gets to $560 million in sales within two years,” he added.
With pen approval now in hand, Aspen aims to ease reported supply shortages.
Approval for Mounjaro to treat chronic obesity is also pending.
