In South Africa: Uber launches Uber Moto in Joburg with trips starting from R18

UBER is now letting passengers ride on motorbikes with the introduction of Uber Moto, a new service currently being piloted in parts of Johannesburg’s CBD

The service offers a faster, more affordable way to navigate the city, and comes as a way to juggle the hectic CBD traffic during peak hours.

With fares starting at just R18, Uber Moto trips cost nearly half the price of an UberGo for similar distances.

Each ride is limited to one passenger per trip.

Every ride comes with a helmet for safety.

Uber Moto has already been launched in cities like Lagos, Bangkok, Rio de Janeiro, and Cairo, proving to be a popular alternative for urban travel.

As part of the pilot, Uber has ensured that all its key safety features remain in place, including driver screenings, GPS tracking, and emergency assistance.

How to ride with Uber Moto

1. Request

Open the app and enter your destination in the “Where to?” box. Once you confirm that your pickup and destination addresses are correct, select Uber Moto.

Once you’ve been matched with a driver, you’ll see their picture and vehicle details and can track their arrival on the map.

2. Ride

Check that the vehicle details match what you see in the app before getting in the vehicle.

Your driver has your destination and directions for the fastest way to get there, but you can always request a specific route.

3. Hop out

You’ll be automatically charged through your payment method on file, so you can exit the vehicle as soon as you arrive.
