Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (Manufacturing) (Pty) Ltd (FMCSA) is recalling select 2025 Ranger units due to a gearbox defect that may pose a safety risk.
The issue involves the internal components of the transmission valve body, which do not meet Ford’s design specifications. This flaw can cause the vehicle to fail when placed in reverse or unexpectedly roll forward while in reverse or neutral. Affected vehicles will trigger dashboard warnings, including the MIL and Wrench light.
Eight affected Rangers in South Africa are part of the recall. Ford is sourcing replacement components and will contact owners through local dealers to arrange free repairs. Parts are expected by October 2025.
FMCSA has also recalled 33 vehicles—spanning the 2018–2023 Ford Mustang, EcoSport, Ranger, and Everest models—due to SYNC software errors. The problem arises from frequent on/off ignition cycling, which leads to system malfunctions such as blacked-out screens or the camera view freezing after reversing.
According to FMCSA, this software bug could increase accident risk by giving drivers false visual information. The affected models include 30 Mustangs and one unit each of the other three models.
Ford is developing a software patch expected later in the third quarter of 2025. Once the update is ready, owners will be notified by the brand or authorised dealerships to arrange free installation.
These recalls are part of FMCSA’s ongoing effort to ensure vehicle safety and reliability.
