E-Hailing Drivers blame Transport dept for Soweto Killing

Protests erupted in Johannesburg after the killing of e-hailing driver Mthokozisi Mvelase outside Maponya Mall, with fellow drivers pointing fingers at the Gauteng Transport Department for failing to keep them safe, EWN reports.

According to the outlet, Mvelase was shot and killed in Soweto before his car and another e-hailing vehicle were set on fire.

Frustrated and grieving, drivers gathered to demand action, accusing the department of ignoring safety concerns that put both them and their passengers at risk.

They submitted a detailed memorandum, stating the MEC failed to deploy a dedicated taxi violence task team to protect e-hailing operators across the province.
