In UGANDA, if you do anyhow, you go see anyhow as…a STUDENT has been SENTENCED over TIKTOK video criticising President MUSEVENI

A Ugandan student from Makerere University has been sentenced to two months in prison over a TikTok video criticising President Yoweri Museveni.

Elson Tumwine, a third-year student, disappeared on June 8, sparking alarm among opposition groups and activists who accused the authorities of abduction and unlawful detention.

His sudden absence triggered widespread calls for his release and an investigation into his disappearance.

After weeks of public outcry, Tumwine was reportedly left at a police station in Entebbe in mid-July, where he was later charged with offensive communication and computer misuse.

During the trial, prosecutors argued that his video was meant to ridicule the president and incite hostility.

On Monday, the Entebbe Magistrates’ Court handed down a two‑month jail term, considering his plea for leniency after he admitted posting the video and asked for forgiveness.
