Gunmen abduct 60 Women and Children in Northern Nigeria

At least 60 women and children were abducted on Monday, 4 August 2025, in a fresh attack on five villages in Nigeria’s northwest, local residents have reported.

In Zamfara state, 45 women and children were seized during a late-night assault on Monday, August 4, targeting the village of Sabongarin Damri and surrounding areas. The attackers swept through Sade, Tungar Tsalle, Tungar Sodangi, and Tungar Musa Dogo, taking captives under the cover of darkness.

Shehu Musa, the traditional head of Damri, told Reuters the assault went on until dawn. He said the attackers moved from village to village under the cover of night, taking captives and spreading panic.

This latest attack comes just two days after 70 people were kidnapped in the same Sabongarin Damri area. Despite efforts by security forces—who managed to kill three of the attackers—the mass abductions could not be prevented.

In a separate incident the same night, Boko Haram militants stormed Kennari village in Borno state, killing the local chief and kidnapping 15 people. The attackers are reportedly demanding a 30 million naira ransom for their release. The brutal assault has triggered panic and an exodus of residents fearing further violence.
