In RWANDA, 17 Inmates Who Are Inmates Sit Primary National Exams

The Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) has announced that 17 juvenile inmates from the Nyagatare Juvenile Correctional Facility are sitting for the 2024-2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), which began nationwide on Monday, June 30.

According to RCS, the group includes 16 boys and one girl, all of whom are taking their exams alongside other pupils at GS Nyagatare school center.

They are among a total of 220,840 candidates writing the PLEs this year. The cohort is made up of 120,635 girls and 100,205 boys, according to the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA).

This year’s candidates also include 642 learners with disabilities. NESA has made special accommodations for these students, including the provision of Braille materials, large-print papers, exam scribes, sign language interpretation, and extended time during the examination period, which runs through July 3.
