University of Ghana sanctions over 100 students for misconduct and exam malpractice (LIST)

University of Ghana Sanctions 115 Students for Misconduct and Examination Malpractices

The University of Ghana has released a list of 115 students who have been sanctioned for various acts of misconduct and examination malpractice, following a decision by the institution’s Academic Board.

Details of the disciplinary actions were outlined in an official notice issued by the Office of the Registrar on June 16, 2025. The sanctions—ranging from expulsions and suspensions to grade penalties and formal reprimands—reflect the university’s continued commitment to upholding academic integrity and disciplinary standards.

Categories of Offenses

The sanctions fall under two main categories: general misconduct and examination-related offenses.

In the category of general misconduct, fourteen students, including Mr. Abdul-Yakini Lukman and Mr. Daniel Ansah, were suspended for two academic years for “disorderly conduct and failure to observe the orders of University authorities.” These actions were taken in accordance with Statute 42(1)(a) of the University of Ghana Statutes, 2011. The suspensions are retroactively applied to cover the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic years.

Examination malpractice constituted the majority of cases. Students such as Mr. Christian Owusu Yeboah and Ms. Linda Attah Lambongyi were expelled for impersonating other candidates during examinations. Others, like Mr. Ramsey Akoto Junior, received a Grade Z—a failing mark—for attempting to leave the examination hall with official answer booklets.

Possession of unauthorised materials, including mobile phones and handwritten notes, led to a range of penalties from Grade X to Grade Z, depending on the severity and intent of the infraction.

Notable Cases

Among the more serious offenses:

  • Mr. Eugene Nimo Obeng received a Grade Z and a one-semester suspension for possessing unauthorised material and exposing his answers to another candidate.
  • Ms. Lilian N.L. Miller faced a Grade Z and one-semester suspension for repeated offenses involving unauthorised notes.
  • Ms. Fatimah Iddriss and Mr. Justice Nii-Amo received formal reprimands for rudeness towards invigilators and for communicating with another student during an exam, respectively.

University Statement

In the notice signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, the university reiterated its stance on discipline and academic honesty:

“All students are advised to familiarise themselves with the University’s regulations and conduct themselves in a manner befitting members of our community.”

The notice was circulated across the university community, including faculty, administrative staff, and students, and forwarded to senior university officials for record-keeping and further monitoring.

The University of Ghana continues to enforce its regulations to maintain the highest standards of academic and ethical conduct.
