Family demands answers after 15-year-old suspect’s alleged suicide in Police custody.

The family of a 15-year-old boy is seeking answers. Simon Obeng allegedly committed suicide on June 8, 2025. He was in custody at Tarkwa-Simpa Police Station.

Simon was arrested on June 5. His employer accused him of stealing gold. He remained in police cells while the investigation continued.

According to sources, police told the family Simon hanged himself on Sunday morning. A video showed him hanging from a rope in his cell.

This tragic incident has left his family devastated and suspicious. They want better explanations for Simon’s death.

The family’s suspicion stems from events before his death. On Saturday, the foreman and mine owner sought bail for Simon. Police refused their request, saying it was too late.

Simon’s mother, Akua Atta, suspects foul play in her son’s death. She questions the police’s handling of the case and their refusal to grant bail.

“We spoke with him several times while he was in jail,” she said. “We assured him we were seeking bail soon.”

She expressed disbelief over the suicide claim and noted that another inmate was moved out earlier that evening.

“When they tried to bail him, police said it was too late,” she added. “They wouldn’t even let them see him.”

Akua also denied police claims about a suicide note left by Simon. The note allegedly stated he was 18 years old instead of 15.

The police have not yet responded to requests for more information on this case.
