Wild snake triggers power outage in Ashanti Region

A snake intrusion at the ECG substation in Kwaso caused a power outage. This incident occurred on June 11, 2025, affecting parts of the Ashanti Region.

The snake contacted the Akyawkrom 2 feeder line and grounding equipment. This triggered an automatic shutdown of the system.

ECG’s emergency team quickly restored power after isolating the issue. Officials noted that wildlife poses a persistent threat to grid stability.

Collins Manu, ECG’s Ashanti Sub-Transmission PRO, stated that snakes and birds are serious risks. He emphasized the need for a strong prevention strategy.

Ing. Peter K. Fletcher, General Manager of ECG Ashanti Sub-Transmission, highlighted the importance of early public reports. Community vigilance is essential to prevent outages before they happen.
