Ghana Armed Forces Assure Public of Uninterrupted Medical Services Amid Nurses’ Strike
Amid the ongoing nationwide strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have reassured the public that all military medical facilities remain fully operational.
In a press release dated June 12, the GAF emphasized their unwavering commitment to providing uninterrupted healthcare services. The Ghana Armed Forces Critical Care and Emergency Hospital has opened its doors to walk-in patients and is actively treating critical cases to meet rising healthcare demands.
As part of broader efforts to expand capacity, the African Rapid Response Partnership is establishing a field hospital at the 37 Military Hospital. This temporary facility is expected to be fully operational by June 13, 2025, and will help manage the increased patient load during the strike.
To ensure continuity of emergency services, the 37 Military Hospital has implemented alternative arrangements. A temporary medical unit was set up at the Janitorial Unit prior to the strike and is currently handling critical cases while the main Medical Emergency Unit undergoes fumigation. The main unit is scheduled to resume full operations by Saturday, June 14, 2025.
Lieutenant General William Agyapong, accompanied by a high-level delegation, visited several medical facilities to assess their preparedness. During the visit, he announced a financial donation from the Military High Command to support essential medical supplies and ease financial pressure on hospitals.
The GAF is also appealing to individuals and organizations for support, calling for resources to bolster their medical services. They reaffirmed their commitment to delivering quality healthcare throughout this challenging period.
