PassionAir Denies Fuel Shortage Claims After Accra-Takoradi Flight Turnaround

PassionAir Denies Fuel Shortage Allegations, Affirms Commitment to Safety

PassionAir has firmly dismissed recent claims circulating on social media about a fuel shortage incident involving one of its flights, labeling the reports as “false and misleading.”

In an official statement released on Saturday, May 31, 2025, the airline clarified that Flight OP 122, which departed Kotoka International Airport at 6:18 a.m., returned to base just six minutes after takeoff—not due to a fuel issue, but because of an onboard indication unrelated to fuel.

“The Captain elected to return to base due to an indication received in the flight deck not related to fuel,” the statement explained.

The aircraft landed safely in Accra, and ground engineers immediately began diagnostics. All passengers were safely disembarked in accordance with standard safety protocols.

After the issue was resolved, the aircraft was refueled and cleared for flight, resuming its journey under a new call sign, Flight OP 122A, without further incident.

Condemning Misinformation

PassionAir strongly criticized the spread of unverified claims and urged the public to rely solely on official communication channels for accurate information.

“We operate in strict compliance with safety standards set by our aviation regulator,” the airline emphasized, reiterating its commitment to passenger safety and regulatory integrity.

The statement also included an apology to affected passengers for the brief disruption and expressed gratitude for their patience and understanding.

“Our passengers’ safety remains our highest priority,” PassionAir concluded.
