The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has officially extended the deadline for obtaining new gold trading licenses to June 21, 2025, in response to petitions from key stakeholders. The original deadline was set for May 21, 2025.
In a statement, GoldBod clarified that individuals and businesses currently operating under licenses issued by the now-defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) or the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources may continue trading in gold until the new deadline. However, starting June 22, 2025, only GoldBod license holders will be legally authorized to buy or sell gold in Ghana.
After this date, the use of outdated licenses will be considered a violation of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (ACT 1140), and will be subject to penalties under the law.
Additionally, effective May 22, 2025, licenses issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources will no longer be valid for exporting gold. From that point forward, GoldBod will be the sole authority permitted to export small-scale gold from Ghana.
GoldBod is encouraging all individuals and entities interested in gold trading to apply for a license through its official website at goldbod.gov.gh. The licensing process remains open and will continue beyond the June deadline.
The Board expressed its appreciation for the cooperation of stakeholders and the general public, noting that these regulatory measures are part of a broader effort to enhance transparency and efficiency in Ghana’s gold trade. The initiative aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to maximize the value of Ghana’s mineral wealth for national development.
