NPP Urges Attorney General to Take Legal Action Over A-Plus Bribery Allegation
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine to take legal action against Member of Parliament Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, following serious bribery allegations made against him.
The controversy stems from a social media post by A-Plus, in which he accused Dr. Ayine of attempting to bribe members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee with GH¢500,000. The NPP has since urged the Attorney General to defend his integrity through the courts, especially if the allegations are unfounded.
At a press conference held in Accra yesterday, Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP’s National Organiser, expressed concern over Dr. Ayine’s continued silence on the matter. He criticized the Attorney General for what he described as a lack of decisive response to a claim that could severely damage both his reputation and the credibility of Parliament.
“The Attorney General must take steps to clear his name. If these allegations are false—as we believe they are—then legal action is necessary to protect the dignity of his office and the integrity of our institutions,” Boakye stated.
The situation escalated after A-Plus admitted in a recent Facebook post that he had publicly accused Dr. Ayine of attempting to bribe members of the committee. He described his post as “strong” and reaffirmed the claim, which has since sparked heated public debate.
The NPP insists that the matter cannot be brushed aside, stressing that it undermines public trust in democratic processes and governance. The party is now urging Dr. Ayine to address the allegation head-on through appropriate legal channels.
