GRA refutes claims of SML resuming operations in petroleum and mineral sectors

GRA Refutes Reports on SML’s Alleged Return to Revenue Assurance Operations

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has firmly denied recent media reports suggesting that Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd. (SML) has resumed its revenue assurance activities in the upstream petroleum and solid minerals sectors.

In a statement issued on May 14, 2025, the GRA reaffirmed that SML’s operations in these sectors remain suspended, in line with a directive first issued in April 2024.

This clarification comes in response to claims published by several media outlets—including Business and Financial Times and Graphic Online—which reported that SML had expanded its mandate under a 2023 contract with the government.

The GRA, however, stated categorically that it has not authorized SML to recommence any activities in the affected sectors. The authority emphasized its commitment to upholding integrity, transparency, and accountability in safeguarding Ghana’s revenue streams.

The statement reassured stakeholders and the general public that the GRA remains focused on protecting the national interest and will continue to enforce its directives without compromise.
