Gov’t has no clear understanding of what content creation is –Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale has publicly criticized the government and the creative arts sector, accusing them of lacking a true understanding of the work content creators do.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on May 3, Shatta Wale expressed frustration over the disregard often shown to content producers. He emphasized that these individuals deserve genuine support from institutions established to promote the arts.

“I don’t think the creative arts industry in Ghana truly understands who content creators are,” he stated. For Shatta Wale, content creation is not a side hustle, but a full-time career and business. It’s a lifeline for many, not just a random job.

He pointed out that many creators work tirelessly behind the scenes with minimal or no support. “These individuals sacrifice their time and invest heavily in equipment,” he noted.

According to him, entertainment and content creation are deeply interconnected. “They cannot be separated if we want growth in the industry,” he asserted. With proper support, content creation platforms can significantly boost the entertainment sector.

Shatta Wale also challenged common misconceptions about digital creators. He criticized the simplistic belief that YouTubers easily make money online.

“Building on YouTube requires education and discipline,” he said. “It’s not easy, my guy.”
